Description From Source1.5 cm, Includes a typescript translation. Letters written be Johann Menge to Dr Pauli, a jurist, in Lubeck, 6 January 1845 and 3 February 1846 (10 pages). English translation of letters written by Johann Menge (14 pages), translation made by Simone McDonough. Letters written by Johann Menge while on board the ‘Coromandel’ and later in S.A. 1836-47. In German other than a letter written 13 January 1842 which is partly in English. Additional records of Johannes Menge consisting of a copy of a typed transcript of a diary kept by him in 1846. With the diary is a hand written, anonymous, note which reads: ‘Recently a (female) descendant of my great-great grandfather J. Menge died in N.Z. In her possession was a book (with letters & diary entries by J. Menge) written by his son Carl. This book had been sent by relations of this descendant to an Irish relative from when it was sent to the Menges of Stuttgart’.
