Description From Source0.09 m. (2 folders) + 1 packet. Some photocopies. Comprises a small collection of papers documenting the wartime experiences and professional life as a dentist of Reinhard Waldsax. Many of the documents and letters are written in German and some have accompanying English translations. Personal papers include: official German documents from 1934-1935, including forms denoting Aryan status and permitting movement within the Reich; family papers; letters of support and testimonials from patients and colleagues, 1939; correspondence with the British Home Office and Admiralty in the course of applying to return to England and applying for British nationality, 1944, 1947-1948; birth, naturalisation, nationality, professional registration certificates and other official documents; photographs; copies of information on dental procedures pioneered by Waldsach; and letters relating to German honours awarded to Waldsax, 1970. Papers relating to Waldsax’s time as an internee at Hay Internment Camp include: information on dental procedures carried out at the Camp; letters soliciting support in the form of equipment and supplies for the medical services delivered to internees; artworks created by internees (Theo Engel and Hans Rothe); a small book of poems written by Gerd Biermann in 1943 titled “Das kleine Rhapsodienbuch”; letters of support, 1940 and 1953; photocopies of information about the “Dunera”; and photographs. Additional material comprises a folder of papers on Reinhard Waldsax, the Waldsax family and dental history, collated by Waldsax’s son, Ralph.
